Volume is a property associated with a finite region of space. The volume occupied by a given region of space $\mathrm{\Omega }$ is typically denoted by the symbol $V$. It is always possible to subdivide a given region into smaller sub-regions. The symbol $dV$ is often used to denote the volume occupied by an arbitrarily small region of space. Thus the total volume occupied by $\mathrm{\Omega }$ can be expressed as: $V=\underset{\mathrm{\Omega }}{\int }dV$
