Volume is a property associated with a finite region of space. The volume occupied by a given region of space Ω is typically denoted by the symbol V. It is always possible to subdivide a given region into smaller sub-regions. The symbol dV is often used to denote the volume occupied by an arbitrarily small region of space. Thus the total volume occupied by Ω can be expressed as: V=ΩdV
