Focal depth is the distance between the [[../Epicentre/|Epicentre]] and [[../Hypocenter/|Hypocentre]] of an earthquake. It can be thought of as the z coordinate of an earthquake location, assuming, as is usually the case, that the positive z axis points into the earth.
