For more info on Euler Sequences, notation and convention see the generic entry on Euler angle sequences.

R121(ϕ,θ,ψ)=R1(ψ)R2(θ)R1(ϕ)

The rotation matrices are

R1(ψ)=[1000cψsψ0sψcψ],R2(θ)=[cθ0sθ010sθ0cθ],R1(ϕ)=[1000cϕsϕ0sϕcϕ].

Carrying out the matrix multiplication from right to left

R2(θ)R1(ϕ)=[cθ0sθ010sθ0cθ][1000cϕsϕ0sϕcϕ]=[cθsθsϕsθcϕ0cϕsϕsθcθsϕcθcϕ]

Finally leaving us with the Euler 121 sequence

R1(ψ)R2(θ)R1(ϕ)=[cθsθsϕsθcϕsψsθcψcϕsψcθsϕcψsϕ+sψcθcϕsθcψsψcϕcψcθsϕsψsϕ+cψcθcϕ]
